Student Affairs at Our School of Life Sciences
Since 1986, our school has adhered to the motto “Learning has no limits; behave as a model,” leveraging the overall strengths of our century-old institution and a high-quality faculty team. With a focus on talent cultivation quality and prioritizing discipline and faculty development, we have accelerated the growth of our disciplines and programs. Our school has developed into a base for training applied talents in life sciences, with distinct academic strengths and unique characteristics. Now, let’s take a look at student affairs in the School of Life Sciences.
Competition Participation
In recent years, the school has adhered to the principle of “promoting improvement through competitions” to foster innovation and entrepreneurship training through key laboratories, teaching centers, and on-campus practice bases. We encourage faculty and students to actively participate in various discipline and skill competitions, such as the “National Life Sciences Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition” and the “National Life Sciences Competition,” as well as the “National Teaching Skills Competition for Normal School Students.” These efforts have earned over 10 national first prizes, 70 national second prizes, 30 national third prizes, two provincial special prizes, more than 20 provincial first prizes, and nearly 60 provincial second prizes. This has created a strong academic atmosphere, enhanced academic spirit, and improved talent cultivation quality, boosting students’ professional skills and overall competencies, increasing their success rates in job interviews or graduate school admissions. About 30% of our students are admitted to graduate programs each year. Faculty members leverage these opportunities to improve teaching methods, refine teaching content, and raise teaching standards, steadily improving the quality of professional talent cultivation.
Cultural and Sports Activities
Our students continuously unite with a shared purpose, striving with energy and determination. They go beyond knowledge and moral development, focusing on holistic growth in physical, artistic, and practical skills. They exhibit energy on the basketball court, eloquence in debate competitions, and radiance in talent shows, leaving a vibrant and talented impression in every activity and task. Events like the “Star of Style” competition, Mid-Autumn gatherings, the “Ethnic Talent Show,” and the “Biology Photography Event” provide more platforms for students to express themselves, fostering cultural appreciation and developing a refined cultural atmosphere.
Volunteer Service
Our students stand at the forefront of the new era, embodying the spirit of volunteerism—dedicated, friendly, helpful, and progressive—by continuing to write new chapters of the Lei Feng story through their actions. The virtue of respecting and caring for the elderly has been deeply rooted in Chinese tradition. Our contemporary students take on social responsibilities to carry forward this tradition. Our school has organized numerous volunteer activities, such as the “Warm Companionship, Brighten the Sunset” and “Inherit the Lei Feng Spirit, Promote Respect for the Elderly” events, bringing care and warmth to the elderly and awakening students’ sense of social service. These activities contribute to promoting traditional Chinese virtues.
Party and Youth League Development
Upholding Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, our school integrates Party and Youth League development to strengthen organizational construction. We hold weekly Youth League activities and regular lectures to improve students’ understanding of the Party and League. Activities such as “Reflecting on Glorious History, Understanding Our Mission” themed Party Day, “Knowing School History, Honoring School Pride” Party Day, and “Promoting Constitutional Spirit, Building Social Rule of Law” constitutional lectures help students recognize their mission and responsibility and prepare them to contribute to socialist construction.
Academic Culture Building
Our school places great emphasis on academic culture building, regularly holding Academic Culture Month activities to further standardize student behavior, promote a learning-focused atmosphere, and foster a rigorous and progressive campus culture. We actively expand practical learning channels, conducting field biology practicums in places like Shanhaiguan and Changbai Mountain, and establishing biology and biotechnology internships in partnership with secondary schools and companies. By enhancing academic culture, we strive to improve students’ English pass rates, graduate admission rates, and employment rates.
With the guidance and support of the academic administration, and the leadership of the college’s Party and administrative team, we are committed to moral education and innovation, with goals to improve quality and achieve tangible results. Through initiatives such as strengthening foundational civility, improving academic culture, shaping our college culture, and highlighting the essence of teaching dedication, we aim to establish three core activity brands: “Heritage and Soul,” “Solid Foundations and Skills,” and “One College, One Brand.” This builds a comprehensive, all-encompassing student nurturing environment, aligning student affairs with the college’s talent cultivation goals, fostering a strong school ethos, and collectively nurturing high-quality talents for the new era.
