The School of Life Sciences at Changchun Normal University was formerly known as the Biology Department of Changchun Normal University, founded in 1986. It established a major in Biology Education and began admitting vocational students. In 1997, it established a major in Biology Science (teacher training) and began admitting undergraduate students. In 2003, it added a major in Biotechnology and began admitting undergraduate students. The School of Life Sciences of Changchun Normal University was established in February 2005, and in 2013, Changchun Normal University was upgraded to Changchun Normal University. For more than 30 years, the college has been working hard and striving for excellence, adhering to the school motto of "Endless Learning, Exemplary Behavior", relying on the overall advantages of a century old teacher and the high-quality faculty team of the college, guided by the construction of "Double First Class", centered on the quality of talent cultivation, and focused on discipline and faculty construction, accelerating the construction of disciplines and majors, and making the college develop into a life science applied talent training base with obvious disciplinary advantages and distinctive characteristics.

The college currently has two undergraduate majors: Biological Science (teacher training) and Biotechnology. There are currently 907 enrolled students, including 803 undergraduate students and 104 master's students. There are three teaching and research rooms in Basic Biology, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology, with 54 faculty members, including 39 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 10 professors and 14 associate professors. 33 teachers have doctoral degrees, 5 doctoral supervisors, and 25 master's supervisors. The college attaches great importance to the construction of grassroots teaching organizations and has been approved to establish the "Virtual Teaching and Research Office for Biology Basic Experimental Courses of the Ministry of Education" and the branch teaching and research office of the School of Life Sciences, Changchun Normal University.

The Biological Science major was rated as a "Jilin Province Brand Major" in 2014, recognized as an "A-level Advantageous Characteristic High level Professional Project Construction Major in Jilin Province" in 2018, rated as a "Jilin Province First Class Major" in 2019, and successfully passed the second level certification of teacher education majors by the Ministry of Education in 2023. In 2018, the discipline of biology was approved as a "Class B Advantageous Characteristic Discipline" as a high-level characteristic discipline in Jilin Province. Biology is a first level master's degree authorization point, while botany, zoology, cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology are four second level disciplines that recruit and cultivate academic master's degrees. There are also two master's degree authorization points in education (biology curriculum and teaching theory) and subject teaching (biology). Biology has been listed as a discipline authorized for doctoral degree construction by the university. Over the years, the college has focused on the development of connotation, continuously improved the level of teaching and research, and the quality of talent cultivation, achieving fruitful results and making important contributions to the cause of basic education and local economic construction.

The college has established one national level scientific research platform, five provincial-level scientific research platforms, and two on campus practical bases. The Biology Experimental Teaching Center was approved by the Education Department of Jilin Province as a "Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center" in December 2014. It currently has 18 teaching laboratories, 6 independent innovation research laboratories, 9 public laboratories, 1 biological specimen room, 1 biotechnology comprehensive practice campus internship base, and 1 of the first batch of college student entrepreneurship parks in Jilin Province - the Edible and Medicinal Fungi Cultivation Park. The college currently has more than 2800 main instruments and equipment, and a 6700 acre off campus production teaching research integration practice base. It has built an experimental teaching platform that integrates basic experiments, comprehensive experiments, innovative experiments, and practical teaching.

The college has achieved remarkable results in teaching and research. We have a provincial-level excellent teaching team in biotechnology, and have developed one national first-class course, one provincial-level excellent course, one provincial-level ideological and political demonstration course, one provincial-level virtual simulation course, three provincial-level excellent courses, and two characteristic textbooks. In recent years, the college has undertaken more than 100 national and provincial-level scientific research and teaching research projects, with a total research funding of over 50 million yuan. Teachers have published over 500 papers in academic journals at or above the provincial level, including nearly 100 high-level papers and more than 20 patents. More than 70 awards, including national and provincial scientific and technological progress awards, teaching achievement awards, etc., have been won.

The construction of the college campus cooperation base has achieved remarkable results, with one national level off campus practical education base for college students, one master's workstation in Jilin Province, more than 20 educational practice bases established with Jilin University Affiliated Middle School, Changchun No.11 High School and other schools, and more than 10 professional practice bases established with Changchun Jinsai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Changchun Baike Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and other companies.
